The Refrigerator Plays are a ridiculous theatrical challenge which strives to creates more artistic opportunities for edible performers while sharing resources to fight food insecurity amongst humans.
The inaugural Delicious Theater Festival, affectionally nicknamed "Playing With Food," took place online in October of 2020 and featured no fewer than 18 menu items, with such varied works as Spoonticus, Uncle Potato and the musical sensation Spinach in the Drain.
In 2021, The Second Annual Delicious Theater Festival focused on Epic Theater and was an epicurean success. Beyond audience favorite The Pumpkin of the Opera, this season also launched the "Walk-In Fridge" initiative. The Walk-In's essential challenge was to assemble a handful of artists to collaborate in person on the first ever edible production of Richard Wagner's complete Ring Cycle, Der Ring des Nibbling.
After a brief hiatus in 2022, we're delighted to announce that
The Refrigerator Plays will return in autumn of 2023!
Critics have called this concept "Dinner theater gone very, very wrong," "Yummy," as well as "Both messy and unnecessary."
